Event: People and Dancefloors: Narratives of Drug-taking from the UK and Malta
Date: 6 October 2023
Time: 18:00 - 21:00
Venue: Aula Prima, Valletta Campus, University of Malta
People and Dancefloors and Harm Reduction Malta are excited to be hosted by the University of Malta for a documentary screening, research showcase and panel discussion.
People and Dancefloors: Narratives of Drug-taking from the UK and Malta aims to open a window of debate on a social phenomenon that is usually perceived only through a criminal or medical lens. By encouraging a non- judgmental approach focused on harm reduction, this event will provide an opportunity for a holistic and inclusive discussion about drug-taking in dancefloors context, putting people’s welfare first.
‘People and Dancefloors: Narratives of Drug-Taking’ is a 25-minute documentary film showcasing narratives and experiences related to dance floors and drug use from the United Kingdom. Through on-camera, face-to-face interviews, audio interviews, and written contributions, the documentary explores the relationship between dancefloors, pleasure, risks, and drug use.
In 2021, the People and Dancefloors project expanded to Malta. Participants from Malta were invited to anonymously share their ideas and experiences about the intersections between drugs and dancefloors.
Findings from this research will be presented for the first time at the University of Malta, Valletta Campus on 6 October 2023. The screening and research showcase will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A. There will be an opportunity for informal networking at 20:00, with some light snacks and soft drinks provided.
This is a free event open to students, staff and the public.
