The Department of Media and Communication of the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences will host the final meeting of the SUMED project (Sustainable Multidimensional Media Contents), a three-year Erasmus + collaboration among four European higher education institutions. Key partners include INNOCAMP PL (Poland), University of Gdańsk (Poland), Turku University of the Applied Sciences (Finland), and Technical University of Valencia (Spain) as well as the University of Malta, working together to embed sustainability into educational and media production processes, among others to safeguard human well-being. A key aspect of this effort is equipping media educators with the tools to integrate sustainability principles into newly designed or revised curricula for media, journalism, and audio-visual production programmes. By transforming how sustainability is incorporated into the media landscape, the project has empowered students (both Bachelors and Masters), media teachers, and industry stakeholders.
Throughout the collaboration, the project has generated significant research findings, which will be presented during the final plenary meeting, to be held on the 29 and 30 October, 2024, along with practical recommendations for updating curricula. The meeting will include presentations of research outcomes, discussions on embedding sustainability in media education, and suggestions for curriculum development to better prepare future media professionals.
The event will be opened by academics Prof. Valerie Sollars, University of Malta Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning and Sustainability, Prof. Noellie Brockdorff, Dean, Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, and Prof. Ä orġ Mallia, Head of the Media and Communication Department and the leader of the SUMED project representing the University of Malta.
