Event: Open Forum on Quantum Communications to Be Held in December
Date: Monday 2 December 2024 - Thursday 5 December 2024
Time: 09:00-17:00
Venue: Valletta Campus
Malta will be at the forefront of quantum technology advancements this December, as the University of Malta hosts PRISM Quantum Week from Monday 2 December to Thursday 5 December 2024. Organised by the PRISM EuroQCI consortium, this significant event will bring together international leaders, experts, and quantum enthusiasts to explore the cutting-edge developments in quantum-secured communications.
The highlight of the week will be the Open Forum on Thursday, 5 December 2024, an all-day event held at the University of Malta’s Valletta Campus. Open to professionals, students, and anyone passionate about quantum technology, the Open Forum will provide a comprehensive look into the future of quantum-secured communication. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in engaging talks, poster sessions, and networking activities, designed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange in this rapidly evolving field.
The programme for the Open Forum includes:
- Poster Sessions: A showcase of innovative quantum communication projects, allowing attendees to interact with researchers and gain insights into the latest advancements shaping the field.
- Talks and Panels: Presentations and discussions led by key figures in quantum technology, covering the trends, challenges, and future potential of quantum-secured communications.
- Networking Opportunities: A platform to connect with industry professionals, international delegates, and fellow quantum enthusiasts, providing valuable connections for future collaborations.
While the ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute) meeting will take place from Monday 2 December to Wednesday 4 December closed to ETSI members only, PRISM Quantum Week offers a rare chance for ETSI members and select representatives from EuroQCI projects to witness quantum technologies in action through a private data centre demonstration on Tuesday, 3 December. This session will showcase real-world applications of quantum key distribution (QKD) technologies, providing a unique opportunity to observe how these advancements can secure critical communications infrastructure.
PRISM EuroQCI, Malta’s flagship project in quantum-secured communications, is backed by a consortium of Maltese entities, namely RSM Malta, Merqury Cybersecurity, Melita, UMNAI, the University of Malta, the Malta Information Technology Agency and the Critical Infrastructure Protection Directorate. Together, they aim to position Malta as a leader in the EuroQCI initiative, contributing to the creation of a Europe-wide quantum-secured network by 2030.
