Event: AI and Big Data Analytics for Natural Disaster Management

The Department of AI at the Faculty of ICT and Institute of Digital Games are hosting a special evening event exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence, computer vision, games, and real-world applications on 3 March 2025.
Headlining the event is a keynote presentation by Professor Pitas, who will discuss ground-breaking applications of AI and big data analytics in natural disaster management. His talk will explore how automated systems and real-time data analysis are transforming our ability to respond to environmental crises.
The event also showcases innovative computer vision projects developed within the department, including applications in swimming analytics and media processing. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience these technologies first-hand during an interactive demonstration session.
"This event brings together theoretical research and practical applications, demonstrating how our Department's research projects in AI and Computer Vision are making a real-world impact. We also collaborate with the Institute of Digital Games, to show how AI, Computer Vision, and Games intersect," says Prof. Matthew Montebello, Head of Department.

Prof. Pitas has been a long-term collaborator of our Institute during the AI4Media H2020 project and the formation of the AI Doctoral Academy," says Prof. Georgios N Yannakakis, Institute of Digital Games.
