Abstract
Short bio
Although the number of master’s students is increasing globally, research into master’s level studies has not kept up pace as, so far, limited research on master’s level education exists. Specifically, investigation into the challenges of writing a master’s thesis, a common requirement for obtaining a master’s degree, appears to be scant. Thus, this talk will present research which investigated the experiences of nine students from various European countries regarding the challenges they faced during their master’s thesis writing. The focus will be on the challenges students encountered with topic selection, relationship with the supervisor, text production, and insufficient resources. In addition, the presentation will also discuss how certain personal issues adversely affected students’ thesis writing process. Finally, some of the coping strategies students utilized to deal with the challenges will also be mentioned.
