The Department of Physics organised an Applied Physics Workshop 2024 entitled âPhysics in actionâ at Tas-Silg Marsaxlokk from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 November 2024. A number of students taking Physics at Advanced or Intermediate levels, accompanied by the subject coordinator Ms Antonia Vella, attended this activity.
This activity started with an icebreaking activity so that the students got to know each other. On Friday evening, the students had a stargazing activity organised by Mr Howard Zammit, during which they had the opportunity to see Saturn with its moons and Jupiter. The moon which was very bright was also seen through the telescope assembled by the astronomical society of Malta members.
On Saturday morning, the students went to the Delimara Power station where they were given an interesting talk and were taken around the plant by Engineer Anthony Camilleri. The students were also taken to the control room and each monitor was explained. They also had the opportunity to ask questions. After lunch the students had team building activities related to Physics organised by Ms Antonia Vella and Ms Maria Victoria Vella and a scavenger hunt which they really enjoyed. In the evening the Principal of the College, Mr Paul Xuereb, visited the students and distributed certificates.
Mr Alexander Vella gave a talk on Sunday morning on âA dynamic journey through the world of power generationâ. The talk was followed by a quiz. The workshop ended with a mass celebrated by Fr Jose Debono.
