Eighty-two first-year advanced biology students participated in a virtual tour of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory organized by the Department of Biology and EMBL (Germany). This activity took place via ZOOM on Wednesday 21 April 2021 for about 50 minutes.
The programme consisted of an introduction about EMBL by one of the employees. A talk entitled Life and Career of a Biologist, addressed by a postdoctoral student at EMBL Dr Marie-Christin Spindler ensued. Dr Spindler discussed her journey in becoming a biologist, her experiences, perspectives and finally her joining EMBL.
Ms Michelle Noble a PhD student at EMBL then delivered a talk entitled Will you be my binding partner?’. In this talk Ms Noble discussed testing for interactions inside and outside the cells. Students had also the opportunity to ask questions and participate in a couple of quizzes.
This was truly an educational experience giving our students the opportunity to meet biologists from all over the world. In sharing their experience and research, these biologists encouraged our students to pursue their studies in Biology.
