The Institute of Earth Systems, in collaboration with Wasteserv and the Edward De Bono Institute for Creative Thinking and Innovation, is organising a hackathon titled ‘What the Hack? – Tackling Food Waste’ on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 April 2023 at the University of Malta Msida Campus.
Participation in the hackathon is open to students from all sixth form colleges in Malta and Gozo – we are inviting bright young minds to help us come up with innovative solutions towards reducing or eliminating food waste.
During this two-day event, participants will work in teams under the mentorship of industry practitioners and of University of Malta (UM) academics from different disciplines, who will help the various teams to develop their ideas and formulate their proposals. Participants will also be guided in the use of creative thinking methods.
Solutions put forward will be judged by a panel of industry experts and academics, and the winning teams will be awarded prizes in the form of vouchers to the value of €1000 for the team in first place and €500 to the team placing second. All participants will receive a certificate of participation.
Further information, including a draft programme of the event, is available in the online information pack, and any queries should be addressed to Mr Martin Caruana by email or over the phone.
