The Environmental Committee at the UM Junior College is organising the second edition of festAmbjent on 6 - 7 March.
A series of seminars will be held on a variety of topics from the various academic disciplines, giving students the opportunity to look at environmental issues from a wider lens. For a complete overview of the seminars, kindly refer to the festAmbjent programme.
In the Foyer, one will have the opportunity to visit various stands including stands set up by local environmental NGOs and active citizens within the community, the Argotti Botanic Gardens and Resource Centre, and the Institute of Earth Systems. The Institute of Earth Systems will also be conducting outdoor air quality monitoring at JC during the event.
An exhibition ‘War: A human tragedy – An environmental disaster’ will be set up for the whole week (4 - 8 March) tith the aim of raising awareness on an unforgotten casualty of war – the environment, and the promotion of peace. As a call for peace, visitors will be invited to sign a poppy and place it in the planters at the exhibition as a commitment to strive for justice and peaceful solutions to conflicts.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to visit the art exhibition ‘The World through Printing’ with artwork made by JC students of the Department of the Creative Arts and Design.
A bake sale will also be held. Proceedings will be used to create a fund for the care and feeding of the cats that joined us on the College grounds. Pet food will also be collected during the week, and will be donated to animal sanctuaries.
