On Friday 17 May 2024, Junior College students studying languages at A level attended an information session entitled ‘Where does translation fit in our lives?’ delivered by David Schembri, Language Officer at the European Commission Representation in Malta. The talk highlighted the omnipresence of translation in today's everyday life, from International agreements to films and TV series, to instruction manuals, to menus, to literature and technology.
This was followed by a discussion on what makes a good translation, and students explored the importance of excellent language and writing skills and a strong cultural understanding of the country where the language is prevalent.
The event was coordinated by the Area of Languages & Communication.
