A Maltese start-up called Freshy has been named one in ten of CNBC's hottest start-ups in the world.
Freshy is a cloud + mobile platform, which is intended to solve the food waste problem, which makes up over 50% of total waste.
Freshy provides advantages to both the catering industry and the consumer while promoting environmental sustainability: it allows businesses to sell pre-cooked food instead of throwing it away, while customers benefit from discounts on food.
Offers are to be of a last-minute nature. Users receive push notifications based on their location and personal food preferences. A single tap within the app allows users to buy a meal on offer and then walk into the restaurant or cafeteria to collect the purchase by presenting a 4-digit code.
This company is made up of four University of Malta students from the Faculty of Economics Management & Accountancy and the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology.
