Dr Immanuel Mifsud was recently invited to participate in the prestigious Festival of European Literature happening annually in New York. During the festival Dr Mifsud first spoke on a panel discussing Poetry in Motion and interviewed by literary critic and poet Nathalie Handal.
Dr Mifsud was on another panel discussing the art of the short story together with PEN Award holder Deborah Eisenberg. During this event excerpts from different short stories, including by Dr Mifsud, were read in English.
The last event Dr Mifsud participated in was the finale of the festival: readings in the original language of some of the writers participating in the festival. The special guest for this event was Salman Rushdie who spoke about literature and translation and the European cultural tradition.
Dr Mifsud will be returning to the USA in February where he will be giving two solo readings, one for the “Conversations in Culture” series at the European Delegation and another one at the Library of Congress in Washington DC where he will also give a lecture about contemporary Maltese literature.
Dr Mifsud’s participation in the European Literature Festival in New York was made possible by grants from the Arts Council Malta and the National Book Council and managed by Prof Laura Falzon who represents the Arts Council in USA.
