Juan Farrugia and Glenn Zammit, the Malta Heavyweight and Lightweight National Indoor Rowing Champions respectively, have managed to secure gold medals at this year's British National Indoor Rowing Championships in the 500m races in their respective categories. National Indoor Rowing Coach Ken Lake, who accompanied the Malta rowers for this event, placed third in his 500m Masters’s category whilst all other Maltese participants have improved their race times or personal bests.
Farrugia from Marsamxett Regatta Club trains indoor rowing with coach Ken Lake whilst Zammit from Birżebbuġa Regatta Clubs trains indoor rowing through the University of Malta Degree+ rowing programme. These UK championships were this year held at the London 2012 Olympic Velodrome and had record participation from British and international participants.
