On 11 October 2018, from 12:00 to 13:00, the Final Event of the Jobs in Tourism Project funded by the European Commission, took place during the TTG INCONTRI at the Rimini Expo Centre (Italy) from 10 to 12 October 2018.
The workshop has been built upon the study “Blueprint for sectoral cooperation on skills in tourism: enhancing the image of careers in the tourism sector” which was initiated according to one of the four priority actions identified in the EU Tourism Policy in response to some of the challenges faced by the tourism sector, namely promoting quality of jobs in tourism and fostering appropriate skills development. The workshop focused on the perception that job seekers and entrepreneurs have of careers in tourism and offered insights into their expectations, covering positive aspects of tourism professions and biases that may hinder access to tourism careers; essential skills, attributes and qualifications for candidates willing to work in tourism; the role of education in this context; and the use of tools and initiatives created with the purpose of supporting self-development and employment.
In the Final Project event, the following items were covered by Ms Soria, as EU Responsible for tourism policy actions, and Dr Giusy Cardia, as Projects Coordinator at the Institute for Tourism, Travel & Culture-University of Malta:
