The Faculty for Social Wellbeing and the Faculty of Education organised a half-day round table seminar for decision makers on ‘Ensuring Quality in Early Childhood Education’ in Malta.
The seminar was held at the Valletta Campus on 31 October 2018.
The aim was to discuss issues of quality through the dissemination of the ‘Inclusive Early Childhood Education Environment Self-Reflection Tool’ published by the European Agency for Special Needs and Inclusive Education. The seminar was co-chaired by Professor Andrew Azzopardi and Professor Sandro Caruana, deans of the two Faculties.
Presentations were made by Mr Gaetano Bugeja, Director for Learning and Assessment Programmes at the Ministry of Education and Employment, Professor Suzanne Gatt, Head of the Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, Professor Carmel Borg, Professor Valerie Sollars, and Professor Paul A. Bartolo who was one of the authors of the Self-Reflection Tool.
Participants included academic staff from the University as well as various stakeholders in Early Childhood Education from the education systems and schools of the three sectors of education. Participants raised important issues and made useful recommendations that are expected to further promote the improvement of quality in Early Childhood Education provision.
