Dr Anthony Galea from the Faculty of Science has won the JCI World Public Speaking Championship held in Goa, India, awarded in front of around 3000 delegates.
The theme of the championship was that "young people are the group with the greatest ability to motivate other young people to create positive change". In his winning speech, featuring scientific props, Dr Galea used science communication to explain climate change and motivated the audience to be pro-active in making a difference.
Dr Galea started this venture last March in Malta where he won the National Public Speaking Championship. In July he travelled to Riga to represent JCI Malta at the European Public Speaking Championship. After winning in Latvia, Dr Galea represented Europe on a global level. This is the first time that JCI Malta competed in the World Public Speaking Championship. The JCI World Congress included various training sessions targeting effective communication, management and business.
