A record number of participants from the University of Malta took part in the European Geosciences Union (EGU) annual conference this year.  The majority were from the Department of Geosciences (Prof Pauline Galea, Dr Matthew Agius, Dr Daniele Spatola, Mr George Bozionelos, Mr Emanuele Colica), but also from the Department of Physics (Dr Iman Farhat),  Department of Geography (Dr Ritienne Gauci)  and the Faculty of ICT (Mr Stephen Camilleri). Dr James Ciarlo’, presently working at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, also participated.  The EGU conference this year attracted  around 16000 participants from 113 countries. It was  held at the Austria Centre, Vienna, between 8 and 12 April.  The conference covers all branches of the Geosciences, including geology and geophysics, geomorphology, climate science, hydrology and oceanography, informatics, society, education, and outreach, etc.  The participants from the University of Malta all presented their latest research results at the conference. Dr Matthew Agius was also co-convener of the session 'Imaging, modelling and inversion to explore the Earth’s crust and upper mantle', while Prof Aaron Micallef, although not present, was convener of the session 'Submarine Geomorphology'.
