The International Federation of Infection Control (IFIC) has awarded Faculty of Medicine and Surgery academic Professor Michael A Borg the prestigious Graham Ayliffe Award of Excellence during this year’s conference which was held in Quebec, Canada. Professor Borg served as a member of the IFIC Board for eight years, beginning in 2003 and as its Chair between 2007 and 2010. Professor Borg has continued to serve on the Scientific Programme Committee for the IFIC’s annual conference after his terms on the Board.
The award honours the memory of Professor Ayliffe who was a founding member of IFIC and a pioneer in infection prevention and control programme development.
Apart from being a senior member of the Faculty’s Department of Pathology, Professor Borg also heads the Departments of Infection Control and Sterile Services at Mater Dei Hospital.
