The University Sports Complex in Tal-Qroqq will be upgraded with new facilities.
The Planning Board has approved the project which includes the total redevelopment of the existing Sports Pavilion to provide facilities for the Institute for Physical Education & Sports and for the School of Performing Arts.
These facilities will include offices, lecture rooms, a Black Box theatre, Dance studio and squash courts. The project will include a resurfaced football pitch with artificial turf and an synthetic athletics track.
Also part of the approved plan is the redevelopment of the spectators' stand which will accommodate 600 seated spectators on the lower level and another 416 on the upper level. Underneath this stand there will be an indoor athletics track, a sports clinic, gym, sports research labs and changing and sanitary facilities.
The new car park, for which a separate development application has been submitted, will provide 1,023 car parking spaces over two levels.
