Following an initiative by the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, the University of Malta has officially set up a Platform for Migration.
This platform aims to promote research related to migration while facilitating synergies, dialogue and training initiatives between the different University entities in migration-related matters.
It shall also be conducting research on migration through its involvement in several projects and experiments, through collaboration with local and international entities, and in conjunction with associated universities and research institutes.
A focused peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on the topic of migration, and an electronic portal for the publication, discussion and dissemination of knowledge in the area of migration are also in the works.
Yet another goal of this Platform for Migration is to raise public awareness through public talks and seminars, as stipulated by Prof. Andrew Azzopardi, who will be chairing the Platform.
“We ultimately want the national dialogue about migration to be well-informed and inclusive. We will be doing everything we can so our ideas, and our research reach as wide an audience as possible”, said Prof. Azzopardi in this regard.
Newspoint has recently interviewed Dr George Vital Zammit, who has also called for the need to have a platform on migration.
The University Senate has appointed the following individuals to act as members of the Platform for Migration:
• Dr Omar Grech
• Dr Maria Pisani
• Ms Julia Zammit (Student representative)
• Mr Neil Zahra (Student representative)
