Tributes are starting to pour in for Prof. Oliver Friggieri, a pillar of Maltese literature, and an active member of the UM community who passed away at 73 years of age.
Whilst he was trained as an educator, Prof. Friggieri then reached his status of professor and was appointed Head of the Department of Maltese in 1988. He led the department until 2004.
He is most known among locals for his timeless books, amongst which are Fil-Parlament Ma Jikbrux Fjuri, It-Tfal Jiġu Bil-Vapuri, Stejjer għal qabel Jidlam, and his collections of poetry - including 'Jekk', also known as the bus shelter poem.
Some stars shine brighter than others; today we've lost one of the brightest. Rest in peace, Prof. Friggieri.
