The University of Malta’s School of Performing Arts is always buzzing with activity, including a symphony of musical activities performed by academics and students alike.
The latest joint effort by a group of Music students studying performance, composition or musicology, promises the enjoyment of a piece of Italian music in a ‘bite-sized’ way, which can easily fit into one’s busy schedule, especially at this time of the year.
Students Hertian Gauci, Maris Micallef, Courtney Caruana and Roberta Camilleri, who jointly make up the clarinet ensemble within the School, have recorded their own performance of ‘La Califfa’ by Ennio Morricone - a piece of calming, almost celestial-like music by one of the musical giants to have graced Italy in the last sixty years and who passed away very recently.
Students Craig Saliba and Abigail Zarb have performed their own take of ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’, a song by English singer-songwriter, Elton John.
You can watch another ‘bite-sized’ performance of Elton John's 'Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road' below:
Prof. Vicki Ann Cremona, Acting Head of Department of the Music Studies Department, has commended the students for complementing each other so well in this project, saying “our students are not just exhibiting a great example of teamwork, but they are showing the results that can be achieved when talented minds put their heads together”.
More ‘bite-sized’ concerts to come soon!
