As of next week, Mr Colin Borg will take over the responsibilities of Academic Registrar of the University of Malta, following the retirement of Ms Veronica Grech who has been providing a sterling service for over 40 years.
By taking up this appointment, Mr Borg will be the youngest employee to have ever been appointed in the role at the University of Malta.
“I am honoured to be stepping into Veronica’s shoes to continue on the impressive progress made by the University in all areas of its work over the recent years, whilst making sure we are equipped to deal with the challenges faced by the higher education sector.
Furthermore, I will be doing my best to fortify the sense of cooperation of our administrative and technical staff members and their academic colleagues for the betterment of our entire community here at the University we all admire”, he told Newspoint.

Mr Borg obtained his undergraduate degree in Private and Public Sector Management and went on to specialise in Public Policy (Governance) at a postgraduate level. He is currently in the final stages of his Ph.D. in the governance and management of higher education institutions with the Department of Public Policy.
He has been employed by the University of Malta for seventeen years. He started his career at the Faculty Office within the Faculty of Education, and was subsequently assigned to the role of Faculty Manager at the Faculty for the Built Environment.
Between 2005 and 2007, Mr Borg took up the role of Programme Manager at the Planning and Priorities Coordination Division (PPCD) within the Office of the Prime Minister.
He then returned to the University of Malta where he was assigned to the then newly set-up Academic Programmes Quality and Resources Unit (APQRU), and in 2012, he was promoted to Assistant Registrar within the Office of the Registrar.
He was subsequently appointed Deputy Registrar in charge of operations. Mr Borg's input was instrumental in the establishment of the Doctoral School and the Centre for Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Throughout all these years, he has gained extensive experience in how to manage the complexities of higher education institutions, and this has been enriched by his background in academia.
He has been a lecturer within the Department of Public Policy within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy and the Department of Youth & Community Studies within the Faculty for Social Wellbeing. Mr Borg’s academic work has also extensively been published in peer-reviewed journals in the areas of governance, public management, local governance and higher education.
He also formed part of the research team of Valletta 2018, and was appointed as an external expert of the Public Service Renewal Committee.
Outgoing Registrar, Ms Veronica Grech, has gone into retirement. Various colleagues have saluted Veronica's contribution and sterling years of service to the University.
