After winning a direct qualifier game against Birzebbuga MLT, the University of Malta Futsal Esports team has been promoted to the VPG Premier Division League.
This is the highest Maltese tier in the Virtual Pro Gaming League achievable, and the team is immensely proud to have represented their team to such a high level.
The Esports team managed to beat their worthy opponents by scoring three goals against the two scored by the others, with the winning goal scored by Zack Camilleri, the Esports Officer within the UM Futsal Team, at the 105th minute of the game (during Extra time).
Camilleri said the E-sports sector is on the rise, yet support to this sector in Malta is sometimes lacking. Upon calling on more support, he also said that for the individuals playing on behalf of the team, this is way more than a match, way more than just a win.
“Competitive, organised video gaming tournaments are a recognised sport, and we would like to celebrate this win by trying to bring E-sports even more into the public light!”, he remarked.
Camilleri was also recently interviewed by Newspoint, about the secret to the team’s recent successes.
