Alumna of the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies at the University of Malta, H.E. Vanessa Frazier, who is also Malta’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is making history as she has been elected Chair of the UN Second Committee, the Economic and Financial Committee, for the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly, the Ministry for Foreign & European Affairs has announced.
This Committee deals with issues relating to development and economic growth, and Ambassador Frazier’s role will be to guide the 193 UN member states on discussions on such matters and to help them move towards adopting the Committee’s Resolutions.
Ambassador Frazier is not only making history in Malta being the first female Permanent Representative to the UN, but for the first time in UN history, she will lead a Bureau made up of all women, the highest post a Maltese woman diplomat has been elected to at UN, and the next high-level post after H.E. Guido de Marco, who had been elected President of the General Assembly in 1990.
In a recent Facebook post, MEDAC said it is proud and honoured of this appointment, and extended their wishes for this historic endeavour.
