The Argotti Botanic Gardens & Resource Centre participated with the Embassy of Malta to Spain to mark Malta’s 57 years of independence through the launch of an outdoor art exhibition called “Malta: Un Punto de Encuentro (Malta: a meeting point)” at the Royal Botanic Garden of Madrid on 21 September 2021.
This exhibition explored how historically Malta has served as a natural meeting point for various world powers, including Spain, for various millennia. During the launch, Ambassador Daniel Azzopardi donated endemic Maltese specimens provided by the Argotti Botanic Gardens & Resource Centre to the Madrid Royal Botanic Garden.
These consisted of the Maltese everlasting, Helichrysum melitense, a Maltese variety olive, Olea europea var. Bidni and also the sandarac gum tree, Tetraclinis articulata.
These will be planted in the Madrid Royal Botanic Garden.
