The achievement is the result of more than 10 years working in the field of infection and immunity, particularly the syndrome of infection leading to lethal organ dysfunction called sepsis. This puts Dr. Brendon Scicluna, a Research Support Officer at the Faculty of Health Sciences in the top 0.1% of experts in this field worldwide.
The Expertsacpe ranking is based on the number of publications in international peer review journals and their impact out of 209,018 published authors worldwide on sepsis. In the last 10 years, Dr Scicluna has contributed to more than 100 publications and was cited over 4000 times.
“My work has been published in highly respected journals that include Nature, Nature Immunology, Nature Reviews Immunology, Lancet Respiratory Medicine, and the American Journal for Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. It is certainly an immense honour for me to be listed with highly influential and distinguished experts in the field of sepsis, including Jean Louis Vincent, Derek Angus, Steve Opal, John Marshall, Peter Ward, Hallie Prescott, as well as my mentor and friend Tom van der Poll. Prior to my relocating to Malta in May of this year, I had a tenured position and was faculty member of the Center for Experimental Molecular Medicine and Amsterdam Institute for Infection Immunity at the respected Amsterdam University Medical Center, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.” says Dr Scicluna.
