Media Release: Faculty for Social Wellbeing states: Let’s stop this cancel culture
Following the article; 'ABBA wants police to investigate 18 activists for breaking abortion laws' (timesofmalta.com), an article which calls-out a number of academics including those from our Faculty.
Yet again academic activists have been targeted for the cause they champion. We stand with our colleagues at the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, UM, social operators and women organisations who are being targeted.
Beyond our own personal beliefs and positions, their right to take a position & their generosity to support women (in this case) is commendable and deserves our solidarity.
We are starting to sense a growing culture of cancellation which is permeating our society and which we need to resist in every possible way.
This really cannot keep going on whereby academics and social operators who champion a cause are systematically attacked, threatened and in cases endangered.
We support our colleagues and as a Faculty remain committed to combat this nonsensical attack which indirectly impinges on our right and duty to support our communities, even through academic activism and which is part and parcel of our raison d'être.
