After the success of the first season of Il-Barokk which aired on TVM and TVM+ from January to March 2021, the International Institute for Baroque Studies, in collaboration with Artique Productions have embarked on the second season of Il-Barokk. According to the director of the Institute, Professor Denis De Lucca, the aim of these and other future programmes is to supplement the multi-disciplinary teaching and research activities of this operating unit of the University of Malta by disseminating knowledge about the Baroque Age to a wide audience.
The current second season of Il-Barokk – Konservazzjoni u Restawr which is being co-ordinated by Dr Hermann Bonnici of the International Institute for Baroque Studies and aired every Friday at 19:30 and Sunday at 17:45 on TVMNews+ and TVM respectively, focuses on the need to protect and preserve for posterity the Baroque patrimony of the Maltese Islands in its international context.
The heritage of the Baroque period in Malta, from the second half of the 16th century, - when the fortress-city of Valletta was built - to the second half of the 18th century, is important because it is rich and varied so that an awareness of both the academic activities of the institute in this regard and the preservation of all its aspects are of great importance to enable the younger generation to appreciate the beauty and significance of our Baroque heritage and the rigorous preparatory work involved in the form of archival research, documentation and scientific analyses which necessarily precede various types of interventions.
