The first hybrid GYNOCARE Conference was successfully held at the Valletta Campus, Malta on the 23 and 24 May 2022. This was also accompanied by the Core Group and Management Committee meetings.
This conference was part of the ongoing collaboration within the GYNOCARE COST Action (CA18117), chaired by Prof. Jean Calleja Agius from the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Malta. GYNOCARE is a European network for Gynaecological Rare Cancer research: from Concept to Cure. GYNOCARE is supported by COST (European Co-operation in Science and Technology). COST is a funding agency for research and innovation networks.
There were over 50 participants from more than 25 countries, including most European countries, near neighbouring countries and beyond, such as USA and Tanzania. The expertise of the eminent speakers reflected the interdisciplinarity of the GYNOCARE COST Action, with specialities ranging from clinical oncology, gynaecology, public health, molecular biology, multi-omics, medical history, ethics and law, biobanking, pharmaceutics and even space biology.
The aim of fruitful networking was achieved, with plans for more short-term scientific missions, virtual mobility, conferences and meetings. In fact, the next GYNOCARE meeting is planned in North Macedonia around the 20 September 2022, which is World Gynaecologic Oncology Awareness Day (also known as World GO Day).
