A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between the Mediterranean Institute, University of Malta and the Faculty of Letters, Arts and Humanities of the University of La Manouba, on Tuesday 21 June 2022 at 11:30 at the Office of the President of La Manouba in Tunis.
The MoU has been signed by Professor Alfred J. Vella, Rector of the University of Malta, Professor Jouhaina Gherib, President of the University of La Manouba, Professor John Chircop, Chair of the Mediterranean Institute, and Professor Moncef Taieb, Dean of the Faculty of Letters, Arts and Humanities at La Manouba. The collaboration established by this Memorandum of Understanding is being co-ordinated by Professor Norbert Bugeja, incoming Director of the Mediterranean Institute, and Professor Alfonso Campisi, Chair of Sicilian Studies at La Manouba, both of whom were present for the signing.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed in the presence of H.E. Mr. Simon Pullicino, Ambassador of Malta for Tunisia, whose assistance was crucial in establishing contact between the parties on this collaboration. Also present were the Vice-President of La Manouba, Professor Amor Cherif, as well as Professor Meriem Dhouib from Manouba’s department of Italian Studies.
The MoU marks an important milestone, both in terms of the University of Malta’s co-operation with academic institutions of excellence in Tunisia and North Africa more broadly, as well as in the strengthening of relations between Malta and Tunisia. The agreement establishes a platform for collaboration between the Mediterranean Institute and Manouba’s Faculty of letters that includes academic staff exchanges as well as exchange visits for Tunisian and Maltese students at postgraduate research level, the exchange of scholarly expertise, the collaboration towards high-level publications of reciprocal interest as well as other academic initiatives.
