Professor Angela Abela is with Dr Monica Whyte, Outgoing President of EFTA.
Professor Angela Abela received the European Family Therapy Association (EFTA) award for excellence in the field of research in family therapy and systemic practice this year during the triennial conference on family therapy held in Lubljana Slovenia between 7 and 10 September 2022. Professor Matthias Ochs, Chair of the EFTA Research Committee highlighted her achievements including her professorial work in the area of child and family studies.
Her research on socially important issues such as family poverty with a special emphasis on children, marital and couple conflict, and children in out-of-home care was highlighted. Prof. Ochs also commended two books she edited on Contemporary Issues in Family Studies (with Wiley) and Couple Relationships in a Global Context: Understanding love and intimacy across cultures (with Springer) the latter forming part of the EFTA Series.
On receiving the award Angela Abela thanked EFTA for their valuable work and for this prestigious award. She shared it with all the wonderful colleagues and students she worked with and with the children and families who trusted them with their stories believing that it would make a difference to them and to others.
The European Family Therapy Association (EFTA) is an international association which aims to link and co-ordinate European national associations of family therapy and Systemic Practice, Training Institutes and University Departments offering professional training and individuals working in the field of family therapy and systemic practice. One of its aims is to promote the highest level of competence and quality in practice, research, supervision and teaching in family therapy and allied fields.
