Following Professor Cassola’s nomination by colleagues in the Faculty of Arts and on the recommendation of the University Honours Committee and Senate, Council at its last meeting agreed to bestow upon Professor Cassola the prestigious status of Senior Fellow of the University of Malta.
This honour was in recognition of his active involvement in research which led to a number of important discoveries that have left their mark in the areas of the History of the Maltese Language, the 1565 Siege of Malta, the 19th Century, and the photographic history of Malta, and for his continuous work in the archives of the two geographical areas of Sicily and Tunisia in order to explore the Maltese connections.
