The 37th Annual Conference of the British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) was held at Belfast this autumn, with theme of “Critical Care Across the World: Breaking Down Barriers”.
For the first time, it was organised jointly with the Irish Association of Critical Care Nurses. At this conference, the University of Malta was represented by Dr Josef Trapani, senior lecturer at the Department of Nursing, and Ms Diane Faenza, postgraduate student at the same department. Josef Trapani led a workshop on performing and reporting literature reviews together with Professor Lyvonne Tume from Edge Hill University, UK.
Dr Trapani and Professor Tume are the Co-Editors-in-Chief of Nursing in Critical Care, the official peer reviewed journal of the BACCN. Diane Faenza, together with Josef Trapani presented the qualitative findings of a mixed-methods study performed by Ms Faenza, exploring Maltese intensive care nurses’ and physicians’ understandings and perceptions about integrating palliative care in the critical care setting.
This study was supervised by Josef Trapani and Dr Marjorie Bonello, head of the Department of Occupational Therapy. The abstract of this presentation was published in a special issue of Nursing in Critical Care which is available through this link.
