As part of the strategy process, the Rector, Professor Alfred J Vella, is hosting a series of University Industry Fora throughout the academic year. Each forum is dedicated to Malta's economic pillars and aims to disseminate academic knowledge and industry expertise.
The Forum on Industry Internships took place on 7 December, led by experts from University academia and the industry. The speakers shared insights on activities across the University that reflect cutting-edge practices in the industry in the field. University students, staff, institutional partners and external stakeholders were invited to participate.
Prof Tanya Sammut-Bonnici, Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning and Enterprise, coordina /a ted and moderated the discussion during the forum. Prof Frank Bezzina, Pro-Rector for International Development and Quality Assurance and Prof Ing Simon G Fabri, Pro-Rector for Research and Knowledge Transfer, University of Malta, engaged in the discussion, bringing out elements of curriculum, training and research.University Industry Fora
Mr Joseph Farrugia, Director General of the Malta Employers’ Association, focused on internships in Malta's SMEs and corporations.
Prof Colin Calleja, Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Malta, explored the subject of pedagogy and Work-Based Learning.
Prof Lilian M Azzopardi, Head of the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Malta, elaborated on pharmacy internships in industry and the community.
Mr Frederick Schembri, General Manager of Torrent Pharma, Malta, showcased examples of internships in advanced manufacturing.
Prof Ing Jonathan C Borg, Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malta, delved into the opportunities and challenges encountered in engineering internships.
Ms Therese Camilleri, Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Technology and Entrepreneurship Education, Faculty of Education, University of Malta, analysed higher education and the Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship Act.
The University Industry Fora series resonates with the University of Malta's commitment and mission to empower the nation and to bring innovation into all aspects of operations, including management, training and research. The Fora reflect the objectives on industry impact in the University of Malta Strategic Plan 2020-2025.
