The European Student Card is a (still) theoretical concept of an ID card that would serve as a single identification document for all students at all European universities. How does it work? With the introduction of common markings on student ID cards, they will be able to be used to access various educational services and resources, regardless of country of origin or institution.
At the end of May, representatives from the SEA-EU Office, Ms Isabella Bianco and Ms Stefania Zdral, attended a meeting at Kiel University regarding the implementation of the European Student Card. All 9 SEA-EU partner universities are working to introduce similar arrangements to simplify some of the formalities involved in student exchanges.
In the meantime, the University of Malta is providing a digital student card on My UM app for all enrolled UM students. UM students can make use of services offered both on and off campus by presenting a digital identification as University of Malta students. Furthermore, all UM students may use this service abroad, even on an Erasmus+ mobility.
The My UM Student Card can be used in instances where students need to verify their enrolment status to obtain any discounts offered by museums, public transportation and any other services.
A UM Staff Card is also available on the My UM App.
More information about the My UM app and the Student/Staff Card is available.
The UM Student/Staff Digital Card project was a successful collaboration among multiple departments, including the Office of the Registrar, IT Services, Marketing, Communications & Alumni Office, Office for Human Resources Management & Development and International Office.
