On Monday 3 July 2023, the University of Malta hosted an event to officially kickstart summer together on Quadrangle. Entertaining the crowd were band members from the Degree+ Jazz Ensemble. 

A total of 31 staff and students from UM who have participated or helped out in the recent Games of the Small States (GSSE) held in Malta were given a token of appreciation for their efforts, motivation and dedication towards sport, whilst also representing their nation. The event also highlighted the need for more physical activity within the local community, with UM Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella encouraging those present to be leaders in promoting an active lifestyle.

The hour-long event concluded with music and an opportunity for the crowd present to meet GSSE athletes over some refreshments. 

Event was coordinated by the Conferences & Events Office in collaboration with the Office for Human Resources Management & Development.
