With great regret, we announce that Dr Nicholas Groves, MA, BMus, PhD, FRHistS, FBS, passed away in Norwich, United Kingdom. Dr Groves is best known locally as the person who won the University of Malta's international competition for the design of the new Master's and Doctoral gowns in 2008.

Nicholas was a member of the Burgon Society, founded in 2000, which is a learned society and educational charity for the study and research of academic dress. He was an excellent organist and, for many years, the Academic Director of the Centre for Parish Church Studies (Norwich Historic Churches Trust). He was a multi-talented, intelligent man with a sharp wit always delivered with warm humour.

A celebration of his life will take place at the Octagon Chapel in Norwich in August (date to be announced).

The University would like to offer its condolences to all his family, friends and colleagues.
