The visit was held in the framework of the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility Programme in conjunction with staff from the University of Utah, USA.
Prof. Sebastiano D’Amico, from the University of Malta, participated in various activities related with the planned exchange, involving both site visit, training on earthquake location (and related communication) activities. Scientific seminars.
The visit contributed to formalize contacts between the Department of Geosciences and the hosting institution, expose students to new knowledge, and gain further academic knowledge. Also, it enhanced the capacity of understanding how to manage a large network of seismic stations and the Department of Geosciences benefitted from the huge experience of the Utah seismic network. The visit also improved the internalisation strategy of the Department of Geosciences and the faculty of science for the future benefit of students (especially post-graduates) and staff members.
Professional development of the academics concerned as the visit provided an opportunity to appreciate other cultures, different approach of teaching and interaction between faculty members and students. The training component also provided new insights and opportunity for managing the seismic network and large amount of data.
Researchers from both universities discussed processing approaches, software and ways of presenting the results and future collaboration also in the framework of scientific article and applications for funding.
