Indeed the Student Council plays a pivotal role fostering collaboration and representation among diverse participants across Europe.
The Student Council is formed by 18 students from the 9 partner universities (2 per university) respecting gender balance. The SC is the main advisory and representative body for an enhanced participation of the students. A proof of students’ commitment is the manifesto they have written to convey their vision of the European University of the Seas. The Student Council is part of the co-creation structure of the SEA-EU alliance in which the ultimate goal is to create a new multi-campus University endowed with a legal entity.
In late June 2023, Giulia Bugeja, KSU Student & International Affairs Officer and UM SEA-EU Student Representative described having had “the privilege of participating in the SEA-EU Governing Week in Gdansk”.
It marked her debut as a board member among students from diverse universities within the alliance. Engaging in discussions, they explored numerous subjects, brainstorming ways to optimise the benefits of SEA-EU. The experience “opened her eyes to a shared vision of fostering stronger connections between teaching, research, innovation, and knowledge transfer”. Additionally, she expressed that she had the pleasure of meeting fascinating individuals, enriching her network, and understanding of the global academic community. She states that this remarkable opportunity has left a lasting impact on her perspective and passion for collaborative initiatives within higher education.
The Student Council meets once a month virtually and every 6 months at the SEA-EU Governing Week. Next in-person meeting will be held in Split Croatia at the end of November 2023.
