The 24 students following a UM's bachelor degree in work and human resources (part-time, evening, 4th year) visited the premises of Koperattivi Malta (KM) in Qormi as part of their study unit on worker participation and employee involvement on Tuesday 24 October 2023.
The degree is run by the Centre for Labour Studies (CLS) in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy (FEMA).
The students engaged in a conversation with the President of KM, Louis Zammit and KM CEO Daniel Schembri on the distinguishing features of cooperative societies and their attractiveness as templates for setting up businesses in Malta.
It was concluded that greater efforts were required to share knowledge about and experiences in cooperative organisations with the general public in Malta and especially with youths and students who might thus be in a better position to entertain setting up a cooperative society.
Koperattivi Malta is registered as the Apex Organisation for cooperative societies in Malta.
The students were accompanied by Professor Godfrey Baldacchino, who presented a copy of his co-edited CLS publication Cooperative Ways of Working to Mr Zammit as a token of appreciation for hosting the visit.
