On Saturday 21 October, Prof. Norbert Bugeja gave the keynote address at the Master of Arts in English Studies Colloquium of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
In his address, Prof. Bugeja discussed the aesthetics of return and the margins of memoir from a decolonial perspective — a pivotal motif of the colloquium. At the opening night on Friday 20 October, he also gave a poetry recital alongside Prof. Liana Sakelliou, a foremost Greek poet, editor and scholar.
Prof. Bugeja was invited to speak at both events by the Department of English Language and Culture within the NKUA’s School of Philosophy.
The Master of Arts in English Studies Colloquium was held at the Amphitheatre of the NKUA’s School of Philosophy Library, and was organised by Prof. Efterpi Mitsi, Prof. Angelos Evangelou and Prof. Christina Dokou from the Department of English Language and Literature, together with Prof. Mina Karavanta, Director of the English Studies MA Programme. The event featured a line-up of presentation panels focussed on decolonial politics and poetics, avant-garde, surrealist imaginaries of performance and resistance, and other panels.
