A new wave of graduation ceremonies officially commenced with the celebration of two Thanksgiving Graduation Masses that took place on Monday 13 November and Tuesday 14 November respectively.
The University of Malta is awarding 2,013 students with their first University degree certificates. We are so proud of each and every one of our students and how far they’ve come, and wish them the best in their careers!
During the first ceremony that took place on Monday 20 November 2023 at 14:00, Prof. Andrew Azzopardi, Dean of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing, addressed those present, saying "Graduands, but also colleagues, parents, relatives, friends, let's make ourselves heard. Let's not only think outside the box but rescind the box completely; please question assumptions; challenge beliefs that define the box and uncover new insights and opportunities".
Fresh graduate Maria Felice also delivered a speech. Upon recounting her memories and various life lessons learnt throughout the past years at UM, she said that studying throughout a pandemic has certainly been challenging, but seeing the joyous faces of her peers at the ceremony was a sign of their resilience in the face of those challenges.
The graduation ceremonies will run from 20 November to 28 November, 2023. The first ceremony was celebrated by the Faculty for Social Wellbeing (FSW) graduates, as well as graduates of the Institute for European Studies (IES) and those of the Centre for Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS).
The total number of students graduating from FSW is 284, the highest number of graduates for this cohort, whereas a further 18 graduated from IES, and yet another 6 from CLAS.
Other faculties with a high number of graduates are the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy with 263 graduates, the Faculty of Arts, with 248 graduates and the Faculty of Health Sciences with 209 graduates. The graduation ceremonies for these are taking place on Monday 20 November at 17:00, Friday 24 November at 14:00 and on Tuesday 21 November at 14:00 respectively.
All ceremonies will be taking place at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall, the traditional venue for undergraduate graduations.
The ceremonies will be livestreamed on the University of Malta Facebook page, Linkedin page and YouTube.
This year, there will be a total of 11 ceremonies. Graduands will be attending ceremonies at 12:00, 14:00 and at 17:00, according to their respective course. Postgraduate graduation ceremonies for 2023 will be held in March of 2024.
“The wonderful atmosphere that graduation season brings on campus is indescribable. It’s a season of endings for our graduands, with memories to treasure, but also of new beginnings,” said University Rector, Prof. Alfred J. Vella, who wished them well and hopes they’ll consider continuing their studies.
Congratulations to all of our graduates, we look forward to celebrating with you!
