The Mediterranean Institute is pleased to announce the publication of General Issue 31.2 of the Journal of Mediterranean Studies. This edition features a line-up of articles looking at various trans-historical, interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral Mediterranean contexts. Contributions range from new research on Albert Camus and Alexandros Panagoulis, the far-right in Greece and race relations in Malta, new work on Leila Ahmed’s autobiographical writing, the Mediterranean context of private property in mediaeval Cilician Armenia, and language and identity construction among Maltese-English bilinguals.
The contributors on this issue of JMS are Alberto Castelli (Hainan University, College of Foreign Languages, China), Maria Pisani (University of Malta), Kostas Maronitis (Leeds Trinity University), Hatem ben Jemia (University of La Manouba), Zohrab Gevorgyan (Institute of History of the National Academy of Armenia and the American University of Armenia), and Marieke Jochimsen (University of Bremen). The issue also features two book reviews: Prof. Norbert Bugeja’s review of Prof. Lino Bianco’s ‘The Ring Metaphor and the Spirit of Sofia and other essays’ (Malta: Kite Group, 2022) and Filomena Viviana Tagliaferri’s review of ‘Greek Language, Italian Landscape: Griko and the Re-Storying of a Linguistic Minority’, (Harvard University Press, 2021).
The Journal of Mediterranean Studies is published by the Mediterranean Institute and hosted on the Project Muse (Johns Hopkins University Press) platform. It is specifically aimed at scholars whose professional academic interests are concerned with Mediterranean societies and cultures within the fields of Social Anthropology, History, Classics and Archaeology, Popular Art and Literature. The journal intends to provide a forum whereby scholars working in academically and geographical contiguous areas can explore, and be exposed to, parallel and related theoretical issues. It sets out to establish a framework for interdisciplinary discussion, particularly important when studying Mediterranean societies and cultures, and to encourage dialogue between academics.
For more information about the Journal or to make a submission, all is accessible online or get in touch with the General Editor, Prof. Norbert Bugeja by email.
