The SEA-EU Football Tournament, held on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 November 2023, unprecedentedly brought together 70 participants from the four universities of the SEA-EU Alliance, through their common love of football.
The tournament involved teams in two categories: students and staff. Students played in teams representing: University of Malta (UM), Erasmus Student Network UM, University of Split (Croatia), University of Cadiz (Spain), University of Kiel (Germany). In the staff category, the teams that represented their institutions were: 2 teams from the UM, the University of Split and the Eastern Regional Council.
Prof. Alan Deidun, the Rector’s Delegate for SEA-EU officially opened the event, welcoming and thanking all the participants for uniting on this occasion, besides playing with one of the UM squads in the tournament.
The SEA-EU Office at UM organised the event, supported by the University’s Institute for Physical Education & Sport. The event took place at the University Sports Complex. The tournament was conceived and co-organised by Msida Local Council, which collaborates closely with the SEA-EU Alliance as UM's representatives on the SEA-EU City Council.
For the final match of the staff category, UM Staff went head-to-head with the Eastern Regional Council team. After an intense battle, the score stopped at 3 to 0 for the Eastern Regional Council team.
No less exciting was the clash in the final of the students. For the final match of the student category, UM played against the team from the University of Cadiz. Both teams played at a similarly high level finishing with a score of 5 to 4 for the team from Spain.
It was two days of intense and at the same time international, sporting competition. Congratulations to all the participating teams!
