By Prof. Andrew Azzopardi, Dean of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing
The Attorney General of Malta has issued a Bill of Indictment against Abdalla, Amara, and Kader, also known as the El Hiblu 3. As Dean, Deputy Deans and Heads of the Faculty for Social Wellbeing we wish to express our profound disappointment.
Like others in Malta and around the world, we have followed this case for almost 5 years, and are deeply saddened by this turn of events. We have followed the testimonials heard in court and believe that the decision taken by the Attorney General is grossly unjust. There is no evidence to suggest that the three young men are guilty of any crime, rather, through their mediation they diffused what would have otherwise been a dangerous situation, they helped prevent what would have been an illegal pushback, and probably saved lives.
As a Faculty we remain steadfast in our support for the three young men.
