Resident Academic at the University of Malta’s Faculty of Theology, Rev. Prof. Hector Scerri, 58, has been appointed as a member of the Joint International Commission for Theological Dialogue between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches.
He is professor of dogmatic theology and ecumenism within the Faculty of Theology.
Rev. Prof. Scerri has been a consultant to the Dicastery for Promotion of Unity among Christians for the past decade, and has been President of the Ecumenical Commission of the Maltese Archdiocese and Doctrinal Commission of the Maltese Episcopal Conference.
The Commission to which Rev. Prof. Scerri has been appointed to, was established by the Holy See and 14 autocephalous Eastern Orthodox Churches, and it has approved important ecumenical documents at Rhodes (1980), Munich (1982), Bari (1987), Valamo (1988), Balamand (1993), Ravenna (2007), Chieti (2016) and Alexandria (2023).
