Prof. Sebastiano D’Amico (Head, Department of Geosciences) delivered a lecture titled “Geophysics, proximity and remote sensing to study coastal environments” during the training course “Modern technologies enabling innovative methods for maritime monitoring and strengthening resilience in maritime critical infrastructures” held in Agadir (Morocco) from 15 to 20 January 2024. The advanced training course was sponsored by the NATO – Science for Peace and Security – programme.
The main goal of the event was to share knowledge and know-how among specialists working in the area of protection of critical infrastructure in NATO and Partner Countries. The event created awareness about safety and security challenges for critical infrastructure as well as the coastal environment. Established contacts between participants lead to future collaboration in various technical or scientific projects in above area. The long-lasting outcome of the event will be a book published in NATO science series, which will include all the speeches during the event as well as summaries, ideas and collaborations that have been established during discussions planned during this event.
The trainees were experienced scientists and industry engineers from NATO and Partner countries who are involved in activities related to maritime critical infrastructure, monitoring, and protection. The most important outcome for all participants was the acquaintance and knowledge of the development of modern technologies for strengthening, protecting, and monitoring systems that will provide the safety and security of critical underwater and marine infrastructure.
