Academics, current and past students from the Department of Radiography positively contribute to the European Congress of Radiology in Vienna
The European Congress of Radiology (ECR) is the largest radiology congress held annually in Europe. As the official Congress of the European Federation of Radiographer Societies, ECR also includes a dedicated educational and scientific programme for radiographers to attend to during this 5-day prestigious event, which was held last month in Vienna between 28 February and 4 March 2024.
As ECR2024 Chair of the Radiographers’ Scientific Subcommittee, UM academic and Head of the Department of Radiography, Dr Jonathan Portelli led the development and preparation of 34 dedicated radiographer sessions over the past 21 months, involving 100+ radiographer speakers from at least 25 European countries. This year’s programme, themed ‘Next Generation Radiology’, explored a diverse range of topics, including latest innovations, developments, challenges, opportunities and practical tips impacting the radiography profession, medical imaging and/or radiotherapy services, as well as offering a focus on measures to enhance wellbeing, patient experiences, outcomes and care. The programme was well received and generated considerable interest amongst the 1,279 radiographers, 489 radiography students and numerous other related professionals registered attendees.
Academics, past and current radiography students from the UM Department of Radiography positively impacted the programme’s success, with 18 separate contributions delivered over the five days of congress, including numerous educational and scientific research presentations, as well the chairing and moderation of sessions, as listed below:
