On Friday, 8 March 2024, the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Education came together to commemorate Dr Pauline Dimech's life and contributions, marking one year since her passing. Coinciding with Women's Day, the event served as the Faculty's annual tribute, Women in Theology, and focused on Dr Dimech's legacy as an educator, catechist, and theologian.
The evening commenced with heartfelt introductions by Ms Victoria Spiteri and Ms Graziella Buttigieg, sister and friend of Pauline, respectively. Dr Francois Mifsud from the Faculty of Education spoke about Dr Dimech's mission as an educator. At the same time, Ms Carmen Deguara from the Society of Christian Doctrine shared her experiences, highlighting Pauline's impact as a catechist. Deborah Debono, an alumna of the M.A. programme in Youth Ministry, and Prof. Nadia Delicata from the Faculty of Theology reflected on Dr Dimech's contributions as an academic mentor and theologian. Mr Natalino Camilleri, a longtime friend of Pauline and member of the Society of Christian Doctrine, offered concluding remarks.
Dr Dorianne Buttigieg from the Faculty of Theology, who coordinated the event's organisation in collaboration with Rev. Dr Kevin Schembri and Prof. Mario Pace from the Faculty of Education, served as the event's compere. Students from Għaqda Studenti Teoloġija assisted with recording, photography, and the fellowship moment among attendees of the gathering held at the University Chaplaincy.
Dr Pauline Dimech was a Senior Lecturer in Theology and Religious Education at the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of Education. She passed away on 26 February 2023 at the age of 59.
